Today is Sunday 13th March 2016 and we are providing a brief summary as to what negative interest rates actually means. Now before we go into the merits and demerits of negative rates, let’s just take a look at who is adopting such a policy. Well a year and a half ago the ECB introduced negative rates and on the 10th March this year lowered them further charging banks 0.4% to hold their money ‘overnight’. In January the Bank of Japan adopted negative interest rates. Sweden, Denmark, and Switzerland have deposit rates below zero too; and even the US Fed Chair Janet Yellen has said that should there be a change in economic conditions, ‘negative rates ...

  • What Are Negative Interest Rates?

Welcome to the Investors Trading Academy talking glossary of financial terms and events. Our word of the day is “Negative Interest Rates” A negative interest rate means the central bank and perhaps private banks will charge negative interest: instead of receiving money on deposits, depositors must pay regularly to keep their money with the bank. This is intended to incentivize banks to lend money more freely and businesses and individuals to invest, lend, and spend money rather than pay a fee to keep it safe. Think about what interest is. The lender gets paid interest for allowing someone else to use their money. But when the rate goes below zero the relationship is turned on its head. The lender is now paying the borrower. Why would anyone do that? Of course, this situation only applies...

http://www.illuminatisilver.com http://www.facebook.com/illuminatisilver What does ‘negative interest rates’ mean and will the policy work? Today is Sunday 13th March 2016 and we are providing a brief summary as to what negative interest rates actually means. Now before we go into the merits and demerits of negative rates, let’s just take a look at who is adopting such a policy. Well a year and a half ago the ECB introduced negative rates and on the 10th March this year lowered them further charging banks 0.4% to hold their money ‘overnight’. In January the Bank of Japan adopted negative interest rates. Sweden, Denmark, and Switzerland have deposit rates below zero too; and even the US Fed Chair Janet Yellen has said that should there be a change in economic conditions, ‘negative rates could be put on the table’. To show the magnitude of this policy, by February 2016, more than $7 trillion of government bonds worldwide offered yields below zero, meaning that investors will actually get back less than that which they invested. So what is the purpose of introducing negative rates? Well, in theory, interest rates below zero should reduce borrowing costs for companies and households, driving demand for loans. Also, it puts off people from saving money and therefore, as they choose to spend it, the result is increasing economic activity, and voila economic growth increases. Will this Negative Interest Rate policy work? It’s doubtful. At best it may prevent increasing deflation; however, with average wages rising at or around 1% and those with savings worried about the future job market we simply cannot see how this sudden ‘increase in spending’ is going to occur. It’s a worrying time for everyone and an experiment Is being carried out which could in time have even more harmful consequences. Nearly 500 million people are now living in countries with negative interest rates, which are meant to get people spending money and boost economic growth. But a recent in-depth study from Standard and Poor's on the impact of sub-zero interest rates warns that they could have unintended consequences for the global economy and could possibly lead to cash hoarding by consumers. It also means that the 'have-nots' are not even getting the chance of becoming the 'haves' - creating a wider wealth gap than ever before. So what is the impact of negative interest rates? And what are the challenges, benefits and longterm consequences? We talk to Maximilian Kunkel, an investment strategist with UBS, to discuss interest rates, driving economic growth across the globe, and monetary policies in the US. Our world is clearly divided in two broad categories, on one side capital friendly countries and on the other side nations applying confiscatory measures which will have a negative effect on their economies and financial markets. In this video, Yves Bonzon, Chief Investment Officer for Pictet Wealth Management, explains how negative interest rates impact the economy and what countries will outperform in this new paradigm.

Josh Sigurdson talks with author and economic analyst John Sneisen about the incremental push for a cashless society following the warnings of Kenneth Rogoff, a globalist economist who's championed the cause of a centrally planned cashless system, most notably with his book "The Curse of Cash" which was praised by Ben Bernanke. Rogoff recently warned that we must prepare for negative interest rates "in the next recession". The fact is, this coming crash will be far worse than a recession. This will be the end of the fiat system, so long as we learn to not repeat destructive history. Negative interest rates have been warned of by the likes of people like Ron Paul for more than a decade. While he was called crazy at the time, he is vindicated as we look down the barrel of negative interest rates. There's no other possibility when we see the 5.5% drop in interest rates following the last recession and the minimal interest rate hikes we've seen since. There's nowhere to go but down below zero. The force of this crash will make the 2008 recession seem like dust in the wind. The coming crash will be a hurricane on an epic scale. The unfortunate prevailing centrally planned cashless society growing in size and scope in China, India, Australia, Sweden and Canada is incredibly dangerous to free humanity and individualism. If your money's in the bank, it's not yours, it's the bank's. If your money's ALWAYS going through the bank via legal tend laws, centralization with digital transactions, you don't hold your money, it's NEVER your money, it's ALWAYS the bank's and you're in perfect servitude to the bank which ensures your subservience as you are shoved further into debt. Every transaction you make is watched and as India unveils the Adhar system which takes retina scans and Sweden unveils RFID chipping, we are close with each day to the mark of the beast, the Orwellian society we've all been warning about for so long. The plans are laid out and more obvious than ever. It comes down to you educating yourself and being financially and individually responsible. Will you ensure your own preparations? Or will you wait until it's too late? Stay tuned for more from WAM! Of course, this situation only applies to a limited number of financial relationships. No-one will pay you to spend on your credit card. But this unusual state of affairs does exist. These negative rates are the policy decisions taken by a handful of central banks. But the phenomenon has also affected the bond market, where investors buy and sell the bonds or debts of governments and large companies. The cost of borrowing is set when the bonds are issued. It depends on how much the financial firms who buy the bonds pay for them - what they are buying is a promise to make a series of payments in the future. If the price is high enough, the borrowing cost, in effect the interest rate, can be zero or even negative. By Barry Norman, Investors Trading Academy - ITA
